Espanyol vs Lugo Preview
On Saturday evening in the Segunda División, league leaders Espanyol host Lugo at the RCDE Stadium. Espanyol’s run of form is growing and Lugo are hoping to be only the second team to score against the Blanquiazules this season.
Espanyol were phenomenal in their last match against Málaga. From start to finish they dominated. It could have been five or six. In a tough place to go to they made it look so easy. Vicente Moreno will be very happy with his team’s performance and with yet another clean sheet they are looking unstoppable. Only once did Málaga break the defence and once again Diego Lopez, who turned 39 this week, was there to make the save.
Their confidence is growing and growing each match. Moreno will demand these performances week in and week out and despite their very strong start, they may have been replaced by Sporting Gijon in top spot by the time this kicks off.
Lugo will want to spoil the party and put a dent in Espanyol’s title hopes. Like a lot of teams this season they have had a mixed start but do find themselves in the play-off places, something manager Juanfran García will be delighted with in his first full season in charge of the Galician club.
The Albivermellos are in great form and are unbeaten in their last five games with four wins and a draw. In their last outing they had a great win in a really competitive match against Rayo Vallecano. An early goal in the seventh minute from midfielder Juanpe was enough to secure all three points. It is still early days but if Lugo can get something here, it could be massive for the club going forward and their hopes of a play-off spot come the end of the season.

Score Prediction: Espanyol 2-0 Lugo
Vicente Moreno’s men are performing at another level. In some matches this season it really has looked like men vs boys in terms of quality and game management. With this rock solid defence and with the likes of RDT performing so well week in week out, it should be another comfortable win. If Lugo can get at them and put them under pressure early, they may threaten to score a goal but even if Espanyol concede they should still have enough firepower to outscore them.
