Barcelona vs Dynamo Kiev Preview

Barcelona are in UEFA Champions League action on Wednesday and they will have one foot in the knockout stage if they can see off Dynamo Kiev at Camp Nou. While it has been a tough start for Ronald Koeman in LaLiga, his side have impressed in Europe and they’ll certainly expect to pick up another victory here.
The Catalans have so far hammered Ferencvaros 5-1 before winning 2-0 against Juventus in Turin in this group. The latter performance was something for Barcelona fans to be genuinely encouraged by and there are positive signs for the future with 17 year olds Ansu Fati and Pedri both playing prominent roles over the past fortnight.
However Koeman certainly still has issues to address. His side haven’t won in four league games now having been held by Alaves at the weekend. There was a goal for Antoine Griezmann at least which will have done his confidence levels some good but their failure to add a winning goal despite playing against the 10 man Basques for half an hour would have been immensely frustrating for the Dutch boss.
Dynamo Kiev in theory shouldn’t provide too much of a test here. They’ve only taken one point from their opening two games, losing 2-0 at home to Juventus before a 2-2 draw in Hungary against Ferencvaros. They are sitting pretty on top of the Ukranian Premier League but have only made the Champions League knockout stage once since their fine run to the Semi-Finals way back in 1999 when they saw off Real Madrid over two legs.
Head to Head
- This will be the 7th time the sides have met in the Champions League.
- The previous 6 meetings have produced 3 wins each.
- Dynamo famously won 4-0 at Camp Nou in the 1997/98 group stage and they also won 3-0 in Kiev during that campaign.
- Barcelona did win both games the last time the sides were paired together in the group stage (2009/10).
Team News
Gerard Pique is available following suspension. Ronald Koeman may rotate his team slightly with youngsters Pedri and Ansu Fati competing for a start on the left flank.
Dynamo Kiev are missing Serhiy Sydorchuk due to suspension while they’ve also had to deal with a COVID outbreak with nine players having tested positive which will most likely leave them with a severely depleted squad for this game.
Predicted Barcelona Starting Lineup:
Neto – Alba, Araujo, Pique, Dest – Pjanic, De Jong – Pedri, Messi, Trincao – Griezmann (4-2-3-1)
Predicted Dynamo Kiev Starting Lineup:
Neshcheret – Kedziora, Popov, Zabarnyi, Tymchyk – Pena, Shepelev, Andriyevskyi, Tsygankov – Buyalskiy – Supryaha (4-4-1-1)
Barcelona vs Dynamo Kiev Predictions
Score Prediction: Barcelona 4-0 Dynamo Kiev
This should be a comfortable evening for Barcelona who have a formidable home record in European football and Dynamo don’t really possess enough quality to seriously test them, particularly given all the players they have missing. The Catalans should claim the win which will all but send them through to the knockout stage.
