Villarreal vs Real Valladolid Preview

Villarreal vs Real Valladolid predictions

The Monday night game in LaLiga this week comes from the Ceramica. Following a long European trip on Thursday, Villarreal would have been grateful that Spain’s football powers have recently decided to allow Monday games again giving Unai Emery’s side a bit more time to rest and recover during this busy period in the season.

Villarreal were in Turkey on Thursday to take on Azerbaijani side Qarabag. A 3-1 victory means they have six points already on the board in the Europa League and that will allow Emery the chance to really take his foot off the gas to some extent in that competition until the new year as they should cruise through what is not a difficult group.

That ought to be good news for Villarreal’s league form and they are strong favourites here. They’ve made a decent start in LaLiga too with an away defeat at Camp Nou their only loss so far this season. Their other six league games have produced three wins and three draws and 10 of their 12 points so far this term have come at the Ceramica.

Real Valladolid meanwhile are yet to register their first victory of the new campaign. A 2-0 home defeat against Alaves last weekend was a really damaging blow for Sergio’s men in a fixture they’d really have been targeting. Nacho’s 1st Half red card didn’t help matters and these are now slightly worrying times for Real Valladolid who have beaten the drop relatively comfortably in the last two years.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 2 Villarreal Wins, 2 Real Valladolid Wins, 2 Draws.
  • Villarreal have won 4 of their last 6 home games against Real Valladolid.
  • Villarreal won this fixture 2-0 last season before drawing 1-1 at the Jose Zorrilla.
  • Real Valladolid’s last victory over Villarreal was via a 1-0 margin on this ground in September 2018.

Team News

Dani Parejo is injured for Villarreal while Gerard Moreno remains a doubt and Unai Emery may have to cope without his most dangerous attacking player.

Nacho is suspended for Real Valladolid while Kike Olivas and Javi Sanchez are sidelined through injury.

Predicted Villarreal Starting Lineup:

Asenjo – Costa, Torres, Albiol, Gaspar – Trigueros, Coquelin, Gomez – Kubo, Alcacer, Chukwueze (4-3-3)

Predicted Real Valladolid Starting Lineup:

Jimenez – Garcia, Yamiq, Fernandez, Perez – Villa, Mesa, Alcaraz, Orellana – Guardiola, Weissmann (4-4-2)

Villarreal vs Real Valladolid Predictions

Score Prediction: Villarreal 2-0 Real Valladolid

Real Valladolid haven’t looked like their normal selves this season with a few more defensive errors creeping in. They are perhaps missing Mohammed Salisu and things haven’t quite clicked in the final third either despite the additions of a couple of players who looked capable of bolstering their threat. Overall it’s hard to look past a home win here.
