Valencia vs Getafe Preview
Valencia and Getafe have built up quite a fierce rivalry in recent years. That will be perhaps a little less evident here with many members of the Valencia side that were involved in an infamous Copa del Rey tie between the two clubs no longer at Mestalla.
You have to feel some sympathy for Javi Gracia who went public with his frustrations at his club’s failure to sign any players this summer. He was clearly promised more and right now it feels like an uneasy truce at Valencia with Gracia remaining in his role despite rumours he may have been planning to walk away.
Gracia may also be in danger of getting pushed out if results don’t pick up. Los Che head into this game having lost three straight league games including a 2-1 defeat against newly promoted Elche last time out. While they were a little unfortunate to lose that game, Valencia have LaLiga’s joint worst defensive record and it’s pretty clear where their main problems lie.
Getafe, as usual, have one of the division’s best defensive records with just 4 goals conceded in 6 games so far. Their most recent matches were both at home – a 1-0 win over Barcelona followed by a 1-0 defeat to Granada.
They significantly lowered the average age of their strikers in the summer by letting veteran Jorge Molina leave while Cucho Hernandez and Enes Unal arrived. The former has seen more game-time so far but the Colombian is yet to score in 6 outings for Getafe and a lack of goals is a slight concern.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 2 Valencia Wins, 2 Getafe Wins, 2 Draws.
- Getafe scored 3 goals in each of their meetings with Valencia last season.
- They beat Los Che to nil at home while the meeting at Mestalla produced a 3-3 thriller.
- Valencia have only won 1 of their last 5 home games against Getafe – a bad tempered Copa del Rey match in 2019 which ended 3-1 to Los Che.
Team News
Valencia’s injury problems have eased but Mouctar Diakhaby does remain sidelined here.
Erick Cabaco may keep his place at centre-back for Getafe who have no significant absentees here.
Predicted Valencia Starting Lineup:
Domenech – Gaya, Mangala, Gabriel, Correia – Guedes, Wass, Soler, Musah – Gomez, Kang-in (4-4-2)
Predicted Getafe Starting Lineup:
Soria – Olivera, Cabaco, Djene, Damian – Cucurella, Maksimovic, Arambarri, Nyom – Mata, Cucho (4-4-2)
Valencia vs Getafe Predictions
Score Prediction: Valencia 1-1 Getafe
This is a tough one to call. Getafe look the side more likely to have a strong season but they aren’t looking prolific in attack at the moment and don’t win that many away games in general. A draw looks the most likely outcome.
