Granada vs Levante Preview

Granada vs Levante previewGranada are bidding to keep their fine start to the 2020/21 season going this weekend. They host a Levante side that has struggled to put points on the board so far and could do with pulling a surprise victory out of the bag before their poor form turns into something more serious.

The hosts will be the clear favourites and you just wonder whether that really suits Diego Martinez’s side. They’ve recorded surprise wins away to PSV and Getafe, as well as at home to Sevilla over the past fortnight. However they were frustrated into a 0-0 draw on Thursday at Los Carmenes by PAOK in the UEFA Europa league.

They are a team that perhaps prefers it when teams try to attack them, creating more space for them to play in. Overall though Granada do look to have a bit more in the final third this season having recruited wisely, and significantly their squad is now deep enough to better cope with this busy stretch where they are having to get used to playing twice a week. However they are hampered by a few injury problems here which will really put that to the test.

Levante meanwhile are just one place off the bottom heading into this weekend. They’ve been at a disadvantage this season, by having to play their home games at the Ceramica while the installation of a roof finally gets completed at their regular home. Given Villarreal’s stadium is one that every team in LaLiga visits anyway, it certainly feels like they are at an even greater disadvantage than the end of last season when they played in the tiny town of La Nucia.

There was a 1-1 draw for Levante last time out against Celta Vigo and despite some encouraging performances, their only win so far this term remains a 3-1 success away to Osasuna.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 2 Granada Wins, 3 Levante Wins, 1 Draw.
  • Both teams have scored in all of the last 5 meetings between these clubs.
  • Levante have won on 3 of their last 4 trips to Los Carmenes.
  • The exception was a 5-1 Granada win in 2016.

Team News

The injuries are starting to mount a bit for Granada now with Roberto Soldado, Víctor Díaz and Dimitri Foulquier all sidelined for this one.

Jose Luis Morales is a major injury doubt for the visitors and would be a significant loss.

Predicted Granada Starting Lineup:

Silva – Sanchez, Vallejo, Duarte – Neva, Herrera, Milla, Montoro, Puertas – Molina, Machis (3-5-2)

Predicted Levante Starting Lineup:

Fernandez – Tono, Postigo, Vezo, Miramon – Campana, Malsa – Bardhi, Melero, Rochina – Marti (4-2-3-1)

Granada vs Levante Predictions

Score Prediction: Granada 1-1 Levante

We are perhaps now starting to get to the stage where the workload will lead to some heavy legs in the Granada camp. Levante are a bit up and down but if they play close to their potential, they are quite capable of getting a result from this game.
