Espanyol vs Ponferradina Preview
League leaders Espanyol host promotion chasing Ponferradina at the RCDE Stadium in the midweek round of fixtures in the Segunda División. Both teams like to attack and if we get goals early, we could be in for a really interesting game.
Espanyol’s last match against Tenerife was far from their best display. For the first time we saw a few mistakes from the defence which Tenerife couldn’t capitalise on. The Blanquiazules did come out second half with their tails up and played well and controlled the game but could not find the net.
It was one of those games were it just wouldn’t go in with Espanyol registering fifteen attempts on goal. Vicente Moreno will though again be happy with yet another clean sheet and also that they are creating a lot of chances but he will want them to be more clinical.
Ponferradina could have moved up to second with an away win against Sporting Gijon last time out and they started very well going one nil up after Pablo Valcare’s missed penalty rebounded and fell to Kaxe who finished well. Bolo’s men thought they had got a very good point until a mix up with the defence which saw Alvaro snatch all three points for Sporting. La Ponfe will know that they can’t make any mistakes here or they will be punished.

Score Prediction: Espanyol 1-0 Ponferradina
Espanyol haven’t been scoring as many as Vicente Moreno would like but they are very efficient. Only one goal conceded. They control the games well and really nullify the opposition. This should be the same in this match. Ponferradina will have to be at their best to get anything here. If Bolo’s men score first then it could be some game but I believe Espanyol will do what they have been doing all season. Control the game and finish their opponents off in the second half.
