Levante vs Celta Vigo Preview
There’s Monday night action in LaLiga and it comes from the Estadio Ceramica with Levante playing the role of the ‘home team’ against Celta Vigo. Paco Lopez will be somewhat frustrated that his team still cannot return to their own stadium which continues to be renovated and he’ll be hoping to find some kind of home advantage here against fellow strugglers Celta Vigo.
The weekend results mean both teams will be in the relegation zone at kick-off. Both sides look to have enough quality to pull clear of the relegation scrap once the season progresses but a return of 4 defeats from 5 matches is a slight worry for Levante.
They were really unconvincing last time out, going down 2-0 away to Athletic Club in what was almost certainly their worst performance of the season. Otherwise they haven’t been playing too badly though with a tough schedule, combined with four of their five games having been away, playing a part in their current plight.
As for Celta Vigo, hopes that this would finally be a much improved campaign after back-to-back 17th place finishes already feel like they are fading. They’ve lost their last three games to nil and Oscar Garcia will become a really strong candidate for the first sacking of the season, if they are beaten again here.
Like many coaches in Spain, he would have been frustrated by a relative lack of summer transfer activity. However with plenty of talented attacking players in their ranks, there’s not really any excuse for their current status as the league’s lowest scorers with Iago Aspas the only man to have found the net for Celta so far this term.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 3 Levante Wins, 3 Celta Wins.
- Celta have won on 5 of their last 6 trips to play Levante.
- However the exception was last season when Levante won 3-1 at the Ciutat de Valencia.
- Levante have actually won all of the last 3 meetings overall, scoring 3 or more goals in all of those games.
Team News
Nikola Vukcevic is a doubt for Levante but may still be fit enough to start. Cheick Doukouré is their only other likely absentee.
Joseph Aidoo is the latest LaLiga player to test positive for COVID so it should be Nestor Araujo and Jeison Murillo at centre-back for Celta. Keeper Ruben Blanco is expected to be missing again through injury.
Predicted Levante Starting Lineup:
Aitor – Clerc, Postigo, Vezo, Miramon – Bardhi, Malsa, Vukcevic, Campana – Marti, Morales (4-4-2)
Predicted Celta Starting Lineup:
Villar – Olaza, Murillo, Araujo, Carreira – Denis, Beltran, Tapia – Nolito, Aspas, Mor (4-3-3)
Levante vs Celta Vigo Predictions
Score Prediction: Levante 2-0 Celta Vigo
Levante may not have much of a home advantage here but against a Celta Vigo side that is struggling for goals, they may just have the edge. They weren’t great last time out, but Levante are the kind of team that is very up and down and it’d be no surprise if they responded with a much better performance here.
