Real Valladolid vs Alaves Preview

Real Valladolid vs Alaves predictions

The Sunday action in LaLiga kicks off at the Jose Zorrilla with an important game at the bottom of the table. Neither Real Valladolid nor Alaves have made good starts to the season and defeat for either here would be a major early season blow in what is already shaping up to be a relegation battle for both clubs.

Real Valladolid are one of just two teams in LaLiga yet to taste victory this term. They met each other last weekend with Valladolid travelling to Huesca. When Waldo Rubio converted from the spot to put Sergio’s side 2-0 up, it looked certain that they would go on to claim all the points against a Huesca side that has been struggling to convert chances all season.

However worryingly for Real Valladolid, their usual defensive resilience deserted them when they needed it most and Huesca fought back to claim a point. Morale will have taken a real hit as a result and this is a massive football match in terms of their season.

The same could be said of Alaves and it’s certainly a big game for Pablo Machin who is already under pressure. A derby victory over Athletic just prior to the international break appeared to have been the turning point for the former Espanyol and Sevilla boss. However things took a drastic turn for the worse again last time out as Alaves sunk to a home defeat against newly promoted Elche.

With Barcelona to come next, it feels as though the Basque side really have to get a result here otherwise Machin will be at risk of another LaLiga sacking, in what may be his last chance to prove himself at this level, at least outside of Girona.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 4 Alaves Wins, 1 Real Valladolid Win, 1 Draw.
  • Both meetings last term produced home wins.
  • Real Valladolid won this fixture 1-0 at the back end of the season behind closed doors.
  • Alaves had won on their previous 2 league visits to this ground though.

Team News

Fabian Orellana is fit again for Real Valladolid and could be the one player to provide a bit of spark in this match. Kiko Olivas and Javi Sanchez are still out.

Ruben Duarte is back from suspension for Alaves but Pere Pons is still out.

Predicted Real Valladolid Starting Lineup:

Jimenez – Nacho, Yamiq, Fernandez, Perez – Villa, San Emeterio, Alvarez, Orellana – Guardiola, Plano (4-4-2)

Predicted Alaves Starting Lineup:

Pacheco – Lejeune, Laguardia, Ximo – Duarte, Pina, Battaglia, Edgar – Jota – Joselu, Perez (3-4-1-2)

Real Valladolid vs Alaves Predictions

Score Prediction: Real Valladolid 0-0 Alaves

This doesn’t exactly have the makings of a classic. Confidence will be low in both camps and neither side really looks like they have the conviction to kill off a match. A bore draw could be the outcome with both teams struggling for goals.
