Getafe vs Granada Preview

Getafe vs Granada predictions

Granada return from a successful European trip to the Netherlands this weekend and it’s a tough game to have so soon after. Getafe will be hoping that Diego Martinez’s side experience something of a Europa League hangover and they’ll know all too well about the demands of playing Thursday and then Sunday following a successful run in last season’s competition.

Getafe have their minds firmly set on getting back into Europe this term having narrowly missed out in 2019/20. Their final day defeat to Levante was the source of much frustration at the time but in such a congested and challenging season, it may have been something of a blessing in disguise and Pepe Bordalas’ team certainly didn’t cope well with playing twice a week at the end of last term.

Morale in the Getafe camp received a big boost last weekend as they defeated ‘big three’ opposition for the first time since returning to the top flight in 2017. A 1-0 win over Barcelona propelled them into the top four with three victories from five games so far.

They’ll be up against a familiar face here with Jorge Molina lining up in attack for the visitors. The veteran striker was a huge figure during Geta’s rise over the past few years and he is already making an impact for his new club. Molina scored the equaliser as Granada came from behind to record a famous 2-1 win away to Dutch giants PSV in the Europa League on Thursday night.

It has been a terrific week for Granada who won an Andalusian derby against Sevilla last weekend and they look like they are set for another strong campaign.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 1 Getafe Win, 4 Granada Wins, 1 Draw.
  • Granada beat Getafe 2-1 at home in the first match following lockdown last season.
  • They’ve also won on 2 of their last 3 trips to Coliseum.
  • However Getafe were 3-1 winners in this fixture last season.

Team News

Getafe have a fully fit squad to choose from here.

Roberto Soldado has tested positive for COVID meaning Jorge Molina should lead the line against his former club. Maxime Gonalons, Domingos Duarte and Víctor Díaz are also injury doubts.

Predicted Getafe Starting Lineup:

Soria – Olivera, Cabaco, Djene, Suarez – Cucurella, Arambarri, Maksimovic, Nyom – Cucho, Mata (4-4-2)

Predicted Granada Starting Lineup:

Silva – Neva, Vallejo, Sanchez, Foulquier – Montoro, Milla, Herrera – Machis, Molina, Puertas (4-3-3)

Getafe vs Granada Predictions

Score Prediction: Getafe 2-0 Granada

Granada do have some selection problems and while their squad is deeper this season, they may struggle here just three days on from a tough European game. Getafe are not the team you want to face in such circumstances and this one looks destined to go the way of Pepe Bordalas’ side who are strong at home and should be much the fresher outfit.
