Cadiz vs Villarreal Preview

It’s a meeting of the Yellow Submarines on Spain’s sunny southern shores this weekend as newly promoted Cadiz take on Villarreal. Both sides take momentum into this game following some excellent recent results but Cadiz still have something of a point to prove on their own ground.
They’ve taken 10 points so far this season to propel them into the top six at this early stage in the campaign. However only one of those points came at the Estadio Ramón de Carranza. They’ve won three out of three on their travels with their counter-attacking style working a treat in wins away to Huesca, Athletic and Real Madrid.
They had less than 30% possession in all of those games and it’s quite clear that they are more than happy to let other teams have the ball and strike on the break. That was the recipe for a stunning victory against the defending champions last time out – the first time Cadiz have ever won away to Real Madrid.
As for Villarreal, they’ve enjoyed a strong start to life under Unai Emery. They are sitting pretty in 2nd place in LaLiga with a heavy defeat at Camp Nou the only blot on their copybook. They beat local rivals Valencia last time out in the league, with Dani Parejo firing in the winner against his former club.
Given their European commitments, Emery’s ability to successfully rotate will be key in determining how well Villarreal do this season. That plan worked to some extent on Thursday with Take Kubo finally starting and shining in an entertaining game against Sivasspor. However Emery did need to bring the likes of Vicente Iborra and Paco Alcacer on from the bench to seal a 5-3 victory with the latter bagging a brace late on.
Head to Head
- Last 4 Competitive Meetings: 2 Villarreal Wins, 2 Draws.
- The sides last met in the Copa del Rey in 2014 with Villarreal winning 5-1 on aggregate.
- The last league meetings came during Cadiz’s last top flight season in 2005/06.
- Both games ended 1-1 that season.
Team News
Luismi Quezada is the only definite absentee for Cadiz who are likely to stick with the 4-4-2 that stunned Real Madrid last time out.
Dani Parejo has picked up an injury that will rule him out for several weeks while Gerard Moreno is another major doubt here. Both are big absentees but the latter’s absence should see Kubo get another start out wide.
Predicted Cadiz Starting Lineup:
Ledesma – Espino, Cala, Fali, Akapo – Fernandez, Mari, Jonsson, Sanchez – Negredo, Lozano (4-4-2)
Predicted Villarreal Starting Lineup:
Asenjo – Pedraza, Torres, Albiol, Gaspar – Trigueros, Coquelin, Iborra – Gomez, Alcacer, Kubo (4-3-3)
Cadiz vs Villarreal Predictions
Score Prediction: Cadiz 2-2 Villarreal
This could be one of the best games to watch this weekend in LaLiga. Cadiz haven’t been as convincing at home but with the visitors missing a few key men, we should still see a relatively even game develop and we might get a score draw here.
