Getafe vs Barcelona Preview

Getafe vs Barcelona predictions

Barcelona head to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Saturday evening for another testing fixture in what has been a really tough start to the season for Ronald Koeman’s side. Overall they’ll be happy enough with their results so far though, particularly given the doom and gloom which surrounded the club moving into the 2020/21 campaign.

They face a Getafe side that will be hungry to bounce back from one of their worst results in the successful Jose Bordalas era. Having taken 7 points from their opening 3 league games without conceding, Geta were brought crashing down to earth with a 3-0 defeat at Real Sociedad last time out.

It’s most unlike them to give up so many chances but there was perhaps an element of fatigue creeping in as they shipped two late goals in that fixture with Bordalas having been very consistent in terms of selection so far this term with his first choice defence and midfield very clear already.

There is a bit more debate as to how Ronald Koeman should best shape up this Barcelona team. The 4-2-3-1 formation looks like it is here to stay but there is a slight sense that he is having to find a way to shoehorn three number 10’s into one team with Leo Messi, Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann all likely to start again here. The latter looks the man most likely to be utilised out wide and his lack of form continues to be a worry for Barcelona although Griezmann was on target for France during the international break.

Barcelona head into this game having dropped points for the first time out under Koeman in their last match against Sevilla. They’ll be eager to get back to winning ways with the Clasico coming up next weekend as Real Madrid visit Camp Nou.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 5 Barcelona Wins, 1 Draw.
  • Barcelona have done the double over Getafe in each of the last two seasons.
  • They are undefeated in 17 games against the South Madrid club overall.
  • They haven’t dropped points at the Coliseum since a 0-0 draw here in December 2014.

Team News

Getafe have no major injury worries. Jaime Mata should replace Angel in attack in what may be the only change from the side that lost at Anoeta.

Barcelona have problems at left-back with Jordi Alba out through injury. Junior Firpo is also carrying a knock but will start unless Ronaldo Koeman decides to hand new signing Sergino Dest a baptism of fire in an unfamiliar left-back role.

Predicted Getafe Starting Lineup:

Soria – Olivera, Etxeita, Djene, Suarez – Cucurella, Arambarri, Maksimovic, Nyom – Mata, Cucho (4-4-2)

Predicted Barcelona Starting Lineup:

Neto – Firpo, Pique, Lenglet, Roberto – De Jong, Busquets – Fati, Coutinho, Griezmann – Messi (4-2-3-1)

Getafe vs Barcelona Predictions

Score Prediction: Getafe 0-2 Barcelona

For all they’ve achieved in LaLiga over the past few years, one thing Getafe have failed to do since returning to the top flight in 2017 is cause any upsets against the ‘big three’. They’ve taken just 1 point from their last 9 league meetings with Barcelona and the Catalans look like they will continue their solid start under Ronald Koeman by winning this match.
