Osasuna vs Celta Vigo Preview

The Sunday action in LaLiga kicks off at El Sadar where Celta Vigo are in town to play Osasuna. The hosts were not in action in midweek given their scheduled opponents Granada were involved in the Europa League and they’ll be hoping that having had an extra rest will give them a slight advantage here against a Celta side that has had to deal with a quick turnaround having been involved in the late game on Thursday.
Osasuna’s season started brightly with an impressive opening weekend win at Cadiz. However they’ve lost both games since then with a 3-1 home defeat to Levante last weekend a slightly worrying sign. Their home record has been key to their success over the past couple of years but since having to play behind closed doors, they’ve only won 2 of their 6 home matches and it’s clearly not quite so much of an advantage with the steep stands of El Sadar no longer packed with passionate fans.
Celta Vigo come into this game following a 3-0 home defeat to Barcelona on Thursday night. While clearly that was a tough fixture, it is one Celta normally get something from and they’d have been disappointed by the outcome, particularly given the Catalans were reduced to 10 men in the 1st Half.
Oscar Garcia’s side were unbeaten prior to that, although after four games only Iago Aspas has scored for them this season. That continued lack of goal threat from other areas, despite the presence of plenty of talented attacking players has to be a worry still.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 2 Celta Wins, 1 Osasuna Win, 3 Draws.
- Osasuna have won 3 of the last 6 meetings in Pamplona to Celta’s 2.
- This fixture resulted in a 2-1 home win last season, and that was behind closed doors in July.
- Celta’s last win here came via a 2-0 margin in May 2014 when Luis Enrique was their boss.
Team News
Wideman Roberto Torres is injured so loan signing Jony is set to start for Osasuna. Centre-back Aridane Hernandez is also still out.
Celta are expected to rotate in some positions having played late on Thursday night. The likes of Nolito, Santi Mina and Fran Beltran could come in.
Predicted Osasuna Starting Lineup:
Herrera – Cruz, David Garcia, Raul Navas, Vidal – Ruben Garcia, Moncayola, Oier, Jony – Adrian, Calleri (4-4-2)
Predicted Celta Starting Lineup:
Villar – Olaza, Murillo, Aidoo, Mallo – Beltran, Tapia – Nolito, Mor, Suarez – Aspas (4-2-3-1)
Osasuna vs Celta Vigo Predictions
Score Prediction: Osasuna 1-1 Celta Vigo
This is a really tough one to call. Celta have perhaps made marginal strides forward but Osasuna are better than what they showed last weekend against Levante and a draw looks the most likely outcome here.
