There’s an Andalusian derby at the Estadio Ramón de Carranza on Sunday between two sides who had excellent Thursday nights. Cadiz have now picked up 6 points since returning to the top flight, although they are yet to avoid defeat at home, a record they’ll be hopeful of ending here.

Cadiz’s Thursday night trip to the Basque Country saw them put in a heroic effort, playing with 9 men from the 70th minute onwards. Somehow they managed to hold Athletic at bay to seal a famous 1-0 win with Unai Lopez’s own goal the difference between the sides.

Alvaro Cervera is clearly happy to keep letting opposing teams have plenty of the ball with his side posting some very low possession figures so far but they have managed to produce some moments of quality on the break, which offers hope in their first top flight campaign in 15 years.

Granada also had a night to remember on Thursday, winning 3-1 in Malmo to seal their place in the Europa League group stage. It was a fine result against awkward opponents who had made the last 32 in the competition in each of the previous two years.

The news got even better for Granada fans on Friday with the news that they’d completed the signing of Luis Suarez from Watford. The 22 year old forward, much like his namesake, is a prolific forward, having scored 19 goals in the Segunda Division last term with Zaragoza.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 2 Granada Wins, 1 Cadiz Win, 3 Draws.
  • There have only been 6 competitive meetings this century with 2 of them coming in the Segunda B in 2008/09.
  • The sides last met in the 2018/19 season in the Segunda Division with both games ending level.
  • The most recent game in Cadiz ended 0-0 in January 2019.

Team News

Carlos Akapo and Alvaro Negredo both saw red for Cadiz on Thursday and will miss this game as a result. Anthony Lozano should lead the line for the hosts in Negredo’s absence.

With a fortnight off to recover after this, Granada may not rotate too much from their Europa League win. New signing Luis Suarez is likely to be on the bench.

Predicted Cadiz Starting Lineup:

Conan – Espino, Cala, Mauro, Iza – Augusto, Jose Mari – Pombo, Alex Fernandez, Salvi – Lozano (4-2-3-1)

Predicted Granada Starting Lineup:

Silva – Neva, Vallejo, Sanchez, Foulquier – Herrera, Gonalons, Milla – Machis, Soldado, Puertas (4-3-3)

Cadiz vs Granada Predictions

Score Prediction: Cadiz 1-2 Granada

There is a real feel good factor about Granada right now and they take momentum into this game having done brilliantly to score three goals in Sweden. They have some quality players too and it might be a bit too much for a Cadiz side that have struggled at home since the restart last season and one that will also have some very tired legs after that huge effort in Bilbao.
