 Sevilla vs Levante Preview

Sevilla vs Levante match preview

Sevilla and Levante meet in what has the potential to be an entertaining Thursday night game in LaLiga. The Andalusians got their season off to a winning start at the weekend and look strong candidates to finish in the top four again this term.

Unbeaten in 16 league games now, Sevilla might even have ambitions of genuinely competing with the big three this term. Their season looked like it was going to get off to a bad start when they fell behind early in the 2nd Half in their Andalusian derby against Cadiz on Sunday. However Julen Lopetegui brought the likes of Munir, Luuk de Jong and Joan Jordan on from the bench to turn the game on its head with Ivan Rakitic rounding off a 3-1 win on his second LaLiga debut for the club.

Having played 120 minutes against Bayern in the Super Cup last Thursday, Lopetegui would have been pleased to leave the Ramon de Carranza with maximum points and will see this as a good opportunity to make it two wins from two.

Levante are dangerous opponents on their day though. They too were 3-1 away winners at the weekend with Jose Luis Morales starring once more in victory at El Sadar against Osasuna. That was only their second game of the season following a 4-2 loss at Valencia on matchday one.

These sides did meet in a friendly on what was scheduled to be matchday 2, with Sevilla running out 3-2 winners which suggests we should see a few goals in this one.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 4 Sevilla Wins, 1 Levante Win, 1 Draw.
  • Sevilla have won their last 3 home games against Levante in all competitions, including league and cup wins at the RSP last season.
  • They’ve scored 21 goals across their last 5 meetings with Levante.
  • The sides met in a friendly a fortnight ago with Sevilla winning 3-2.

Team News

Sevilla rotated heavily on Sunday in Cadiz but we should see something closer to their strongest XI here. Sébastien Corchia is the only definite injury absentee but he most likely wouldn’t have featured anyway. The likes of Ivan Rakitic and possibly even key man Lucas Ocampos could still be rested though with a trip to Barcelona to come this weekend.

Levante may rotate in some areas for this one. They have injury doubts over Rubén Rochina and Coke.

Predicted Sevilla Starting Lineup:

Vaclik – Escudero, Carlos, Kounde, Navas – Oliver, Fernando, Jordan – Ocampos, De Jong, Oscar (4-3-3)

Predicted Levante Starting Lineup:

Aitor – Clerc, Postigo, Vezo, Miramon – Bardhi, Malsa, Vukcevic, Campana – Morales, Roger (4-4-2)

Sevilla vs Levante Predictions

Score Prediction: Sevilla 3-1 Levante

Levante are a lot of fun to watch but they won’t get as much change out of these two excellent Sevilla centre-backs as they have in their opening two games. Paco Lopez’s side are always a bit vulnerable at the back and this is a game that Sevilla should win with a stronger starting XI likely than the one that took to the field in Cadiz.
