Real Madrid play their first home game of the 2020/21 season on Wednesday evening. As was the case at the end of last term, it will be at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano rather than the Bernabeu, which is still being renovated and isn’t expected to host football until fans are able to return. Real Valladolid are the first home opposition for Zinedine Zidane’s side.

Los Blancos have had a testing start to the season, kicking off with away games against Real Sociedad and Real Betis. Overall, Zidane will be relatively content with a return of 4 points from those games although there are still many questions for the Frenchman moving forward.

Zidane has opted to start with Martin Odegaard in the opening two games, operating a 4-3-1-2 formation in the 3-2 win over Betis on Saturday.  There was even a rare start for Luka Jovic alongside Karim Benzema in attack, despite rumours the Serbian international could yet leave the club before next week’s transfer deadline.

As for Real Valladolid, they haven’t made the best of starts to the season, taking just 2 points from their opening 3 games. They salvaged a point at home to Celta Vigo at the weekend with Sergi Guardiola converting a 2nd Half penalty. While this match doesn’t offer them much chance of recording that first victory, successive games against Eibar, Huesca and Alaves following this, in theory gives them an opportunity to find some form and start climbing the table.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 4 Real Madrid Wins, 2 Draws.
  • Real Madrid have won 5 of their last 6 at home to Real Valladolid.
  • However Sergio’s side did draw 1-1 at the Bernabeu last season.
  • Los Blancos won the reverse fixture 1-0 at the Jose Zorrilla.

Team News

Zinedine Zidane is missing Toni Kroos again here to injury while Eden Hazard is unlikely to be risked as he gets back towards fitness. Vinicius may return to the starting XI in place of Luka Jovic.

Roberto is likely to continue in goal for Real Valladolid due to Jordi Masip having tested positive for coronavirus last week. We may see some rotation in midfield and attack with a more winnable game coming up at the weekend.

Predicted Real Madrid Starting Lineup:

Courtois – Marcelo, Ramos, Varane, Carvajal – Modric, Casemiro, Valverde – Odegaard – Benzema, Vinicius (4-3-1-2)

Predicted Real Valladolid Starting Lineup:

Jimenez – Garcia, Sanchez, Gonzalez, Perez – Rubio, Perez, Plano, Michel, Hervias – Guardiola (4-5-1)

Real Madrid vs Real Valladolid Predictions

Score Prediction: Real Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid

You seldom get an easy game against Real Valladolid who were frustrating opponents for Real Madrid last season. Los Blancos only scored one goal in each meeting last term but with a bit of patience, they should have enough quality to ultimately break down Sergio’s side who are likely to adopt a very defensive approach.
