Huesca go in search of their first win since returning to the top flight on Wednesday but it won’t be easy against an Atletico Madrid side in confident mood having scored six at the weekend. Their demolition job on Granada has raised hopes of a possible Atleti title challenge but they will need to be much stronger on their travels this term if that is going to be the case.
While they’ve only collected two points from three games, there is reason for Huesca boss Michel to feel positive. His side performed well at the Mestalla at the weekend, and created enough chances to win the game against a poor Valencia side. Their strong home form, pre and post lockdown was key to their promotion charge last term and they could do with an early season win at El Alcoraz to generate a sense of belief that they are also capable of seeing off top flight sides on home soil.
There were many positives for Diego Simeone against Granada with Joao Felix putting in his most dominant performance in an Atleti shirt, only for Luis Suarez to come off the bench and steal the headlines with an extraordinary 20 minute display. The Uruguayan, making his Atleti debut just days after joining from Barcelona, scored two and assisted another to underline just what an asset he could be for Atleti this year, even at the age of 33.
We may get the first chance to see Joao Feliz and Luis Suarez start together against Huesca and it’ll be fascinating to see how that partnership develops.
