Real Sociedad vs Valencia Preview

Real Sociedad vs Valencia preview

Real Sociedad are back at Anoeta on Tuesday with Valencia the visitors in the first of the midweek games in LaLiga. The winners of this match will, temporarily at the very least, go top of the table. La Real are favourites to claim all three points following an impressive 2nd Half display at newly promoted Elche on Saturday.

Following an unconvincing end to last season, and start to this, a convincing 3-0 victory on the road was just the tonic that Imanol’s side needed heading into a busy week. Their pre-season plans were hampered by a coronavirus outbreak in their camp but they were able to name a stronger XI at last with David Silva making his first start since joining from Manchester City. After the interval, La Real were far too good for the newly promoted side with Portu and Adnan Januzaj on target before youngster Roberto Lopez fired in a cracking third goal to round things off.

If they are on song in the final third again, La Real will relish the task of attacking this unconvincing Valencia defence. Los Che were poor again at the weekend, with Javi Gracia’s side somewhat fortunate to scrape a draw at home to newly promoted Huesca. They offered significantly less goal threat too than they had done in their opening outing at Mestalla with the former Malaga boss’ changes failing to pay off.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 1 Real Sociedad Win, 3 Valencia Wins, 2 Draws.
  • La Real won the most recent clash – a 3-0 win at Anoeta in February.
  • Valencia had won on their two previous trips to Donostia.
  • There have been 3 red cards in the last 4 meetings at Anoeta.

Team News

David Silva is expected to start again for La Real. Willian Jose may rotate in for Alexander Isak while Joseba Zaldua and Igor Zubeldia look like they will be sidelined again through injury.

Valencia’s defensive woes continue with Jasper Cillessen and Mouctar Diakhaby both doubtful while Eliaquim Mangala and Gabriel Paulista are definitely out. Youngsters Lee Kang-In and Yunus Musah may return to the starting XI.

Predicted Real Sociedad Starting Lineup:

Remiro – Monreal, Le Normand, Elustondo, Gorosabel – Merino, Guevara – Oyarzabal, Silva, Portu – Willian Jose (4-2-3-1)

Predicted Valencia Starting Lineup:

Domenech – Gaya, Diakhaby, Guillamon, Wass – Racic, Kondogbia – Guedes, Kang-In, Musah – Gomez (4-2-3-1)

Real Sociedad vs Valencia Predictions

Score Prediction: Real Sociedad 3-1 Valencia

The omens don’t look very good for Valencia. They aren’t great in defence at the best of times and with their goalkeeper and first choice centre-backs missing, Real Sociedad should have plenty of joy in attack here. La Real have more than enough quality in the final third to make them pay and win this game with a bit of breathing space.
