Real Valladolid vs Celta Vigo Preview

Real Valladolid

Two sides who finished in the bottom half of LaLiga last term meet at the Jose Zorrilla on Sunday afternoon. Celta Vigo have made a more encouraging start to the new season and will be hoping to build on that with another strong showing here against Sergio’s side who are hoping for their first win of the 2020/21 season.

The addition of Fabian Orellana gives Real Valladolid a touch of extra flair and creativity this season, qualities that have been badly lacking in previous years. However that transition from a functional, defensive side into something slightly more expansive is not always easy and is certainly not without risks. It’s early days but following a strong first half against Real Sociedad on the opening weekend, it hasn’t really happened for Valladolid yet and they head into this game following a 2-0 defeat at Betis.

Celta were victorious last time out, deservedly beating Valencia 2-1 at Balaidos. Whether that was a case of Celta being good or Valencia being poor is open to debate but we should get a clearer picture as to how this Celta side is developing over the coming week. The Galicians certainly have enough attacking quality to be a side that scores plenty of goals, but we’ve only seldom seen much evidence of that on the pitch under the guidance of Oscar Garcia.

Team News

Real Valladolid are expected to stick with a 4-2-3-1 system here with Orellana expected to continue in the most advanced midfield role with Sergi Guardiola leading the line. Roberto is expected to continue in goal in the absence of number one Jordi Masip.

Celta ought to be close to full strength here and we aren’t likely to see many if any changes from the XI that beat Valencia.

Predicted Real Valladolid XI:

Roberto – Nacho, Bruno, Javi Sanchez, Luis Perez – San Emeterio, Michel – Waldo, Orellana, Oscar Plano – Guardiola (4-2-3-1)

Predicted Celta Vigo XI:

Villar – Olaza, Murillo, Aidoo, Mallo – Beltran, Tapia – Nolito, Mor, Suarez – Aspas (4-2-3-1)

Real Valladolid vs Celta Vigo Predictions

Score Prediction: 1-0 Celta Vigo

There were no goals in either meeting last season and this could be tight too. Real Valladolid do seem to be attempting a slight switch in tact this season and that may take time to perfect. Celta have greater firepower in their ranks and are the side more likely to take any chances that do come up in this game. The Galicians, who impressed last weekend, may just nick this.
