Valencia vs Huesca Preview

Valencia vs Huesca preview

Attention turns to Mestalla on Saturday afternoon and from a neutral perspective, Valencia look like they are going to be fun to watch this season although followers of Los Che may not agree. Partly as a result of the departures of a host of key men, they look committed to giving young players a chance this term but their defensive problems offer real hope to new boys Huesca here.

Valencia were 4-2 winners in their opening home game against local rivals Levante. They could easily have conceded 4 themselves in that game though and they were very much second best in Vigo last weekend, falling to a 2-1 defeat against Celta.

Dressing room problems have been a recurring theme at Mestalla in recent years and the summer clear-out doesn’t seem to have resolved the issues. A spat between Lee-Kang In and new captain Jose Gaya on the pitch at Balaidos last weekend was the latest unhelpful distraction for Javi Gracia as he tries to get this club back on its feet.

It wasn’t a good weekend either for Huesca. They had high hopes of picking up their first victory back in LaLiga but suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to fellow new boys Cadiz. They had 71% possession in that game with Michel clearly intent on playing a passing style of football but the lack of cutting edge in the final third will be a real concern.

They have though continued to be active in the transfer market with Villarreal loanee Javier Ontiveros the latest arrival this week. He’s a talented footballer who could make a real difference from them.

Season Previews: Valencia | Huesca

Valencia vs Huesca H2H

  • Last 2 Competitive Meetings: 2 Valencia Wins.
  • The only meetings this century came during Huesca’s 2018/19 season in LaLiga.
  • Valencia won 2-1 at Mestalla and 6-2 at El Alcoraz.

Team News

Valencia’s most convincing defender Gabriel Paulista is out with a hamstring injury and that has to be a major worry for Gracia with a busy week ahead. Youngster Hugo Guillamon should start as a result with Eliaquim Mangala also sidelined.

Mikel Rico is the only injury worry for Huesca who are expected to continue with new signing Dimitrios Siovas in central defence.

Predicted Valencia XI:

Jaume – Gaya, Diakhaby, Guillamon, Wass – Guedes, Kondogbia, Esquerdo, Musah – Maxi Gomez, Lee-Kang In (4-4-2)

Predicted Huesca XI:

Fernandez – Galan, Siovas, Pulido, Maffeo – Mosquera, Eugeni – Ferreiro, Real, Mir – Okazaki (4-2-3-1)

Valencia vs Huesca Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-2 Draw

Huesca were left frustrated by Cadiz last weekend but they should have more joy in the final third here against a Valencia side that will look to take the game to them and allow them more space to play in. Even with Gabriel, Los Che have looked very shaky at the back and without the Brazilian’s presence, they just feel like a team that is going to give up chances no matter who they play. We’re going for an entertaining score draw in this one.
