Cadiz vs Sevilla Preview
There’s an Andalusian derby this Sunday in LaLiga as Sevilla kick off their domestic campaign against newly promoted Cadiz. Julen Lopetegui’s side were involved in the UEFA Super Cup on Thursday which went to Extra Time and they won’t be too thrilled about the decision to move this game forward 24 hours following the ongoing disputes between LaLiga and the RFEF.
Morale in the Cadiz camp was significantly boosted last weekend by a 2-0 victory at Huesca, their first top flight win in 14 years. They had just 29% possession in that game but took their chances with Alvaro Negredo and Jorge Pombo delivering a much needed three points after an opening weekend defeat against Osasuna. There will be excitement in Cadiz about this particular fixture against neighbours Sevilla but that sense of occasion will clearly be diminished significantly by the absence of fans.
Sevilla did play in front of a crowd on Thursday night in Budapest. They’ve only had a short summer break following their Europa League heroics in Germany last month but competed admirably against the European champions and while they had to sustain spells of heavy pressure, they also had some good chance to claim a surprise victory against Bayern.
Julen Lopetegui only opted to pick one new signing in his eleven with Ivan Rakitic starting having rejoined from Barcelona. Fellow summer arrivals Oscar Rodriguez and Marcos Acuna may be handed debuts here with some rotation likely with a busy week ahead.

Cadiz have centre-back Juan Cala fit again after an ankle injury sustained last weekend and that should enable them to name an unchanged eleven.
Sevilla put in a big shift for 120 minutes on Thursday night against Bayern and we could see multiple changes here with the likes of Acuna, Gudelj, Oliver Torres, Munir and Oscar Rodriguez potentially coming into the starting XI.

Score Prediction: 2-1 Sevilla
Sevilla’s UEFA Super Cup outing won’t have helped their chances of winning this game but they do have some genuine depth to this squad and look to have recruited well this summer again. It should be a close game but Sevilla have more quality across the pitch and having performed very well on their travels last season in LaLiga, they look capable of edging this with their subs bench potentially having a big role to play in the 2nd Half.
