Alaves vs Getafe Preview
The first full weekend of action in LaLiga 2020/21 kicks off in the Basque Country with a clash between Alaves and Getafe. It may not be the most eye-catching fixture over the next couple of days but it’s a really important game for Pablo Machin and his Alaves side who have lost both matches so far this season.
They were both close games with Cristian Tello’s last gasp strike denying them a point against Betis in their opening fixture while Darwin Machis also struck late for Granada in a 2-1 win for the Andalusians last time out.
The worry for Alaves is that they simply don’t have the personnel to play Machin’s preferred 3-5-2 system effectively. There aren’t really any natural wing-backs who can offer the kind of dynamism needed to play in the role and Machin switched to 4-4-2 in Granada last weekend at Half-Time, a clear sign that all might not be well with this Alaves side.
No such dilemmas for Jose Bordalas who seldom ever veers from the 4-4-2 system that has delivered great success during his four years in charge of Getafe. They made a winning start to the new campaign with a 1-0 success against Osasuna last weekend. While it wasn’t a fully convincing performance, it was important to start on the right note following a real slump following the restart in June.

Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw
This will be a tight game and a draw looks the most likely outcome. Getafe ought to be a very tough team to beat again but they do lack that bit of creativity that might see them turn draws into wins on the road. Alaves should get their first point of the season here but there are worrying signs already for Pablo Machin’s side.
