Villarreal vs Eibar Preview
The second weekend of LaLiga 2020/21 kicks off at the Ceramica where Villarreal and Eibar are both hoping to record their first wins of the season. The Yellow Submarine have enjoyed a strong summer in the transfer market but if they are going to push for the top four, then these are certainly the kind of games they have to win.
Their recruitment stepped up a notch this week with the addition of Pervis Estupiñán for €16.4 million, one of the biggest fees any Spanish club has paid this summer. It may still prove great value though with the Ecuadorian having shone for Osasuna last season and he’s the perfect man to step in for Alberto Moreno who has suffered a serious ACL injury.
Villarreal could only draw on the opening weekend against newly promoted Huesca but they’ll have a clearer idea of what to expect from Eibar. Into their sixth season under the guidance of José Luis Mendilibar, the Basque minnows got their campaign underway with a goalless home draw against Celta Vigo. They have been widely tipped to struggle this term but will be intent on proving the doubters wrong yet again.
Both sides are expected to line up 4-4-2 here and it’ll be interesting to see if any of the other summer signings will force their way into the elevens this week. Take Kubo is hoping to make his first start for Villarreal while Eibar new boy Damian Kadzior also only featured off the bench last weekend and will be hungry for more action.

Villarreal probably should have beaten Huesca last weekend and will be determined to put three points on the board here. Overall, Eibar look weaker than last term with their goal threat significantly reduced by the departures of the likes of Charles and Fabian Orellana. This one should end up as a home victory.
