Real Betis vs Real Valladolid Preview
Real Betis are out to make it two wins from two to start the season when they take on Real Valladolid at the Benito Villamarin on Sunday. Aside from a three game winning streak late last year, Betis failed to win back-to-back league games in the 2019/20 season so it would be quite a marker to lay down early on as they bid to take strides forward under Manuel Pellegrini.
In truth there weren’t significant improvements in their opening weekend display at Alaves but defensively it was a bit more solid and they claimed a dramatic late win thanks to a fine strike from Cristian Tello. Goalkeeper Claudio Bravo was the only new signing to feature in that game and Pellegrini will be hoping to see a couple more new faces come in before the window shuts in October.
This will be a test for Betis against a Real Valladolid side that is always difficult to play against. Sergio’s men made a solid start to the season with a 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad. They may feel as though it was a game they could have won, although La Real did grow into the match after the interval and were worthy of their point at the Jose Zorrilla.
In terms of team news, Tello will be hoping his match winner in Vitoria will be enough to see him break into the starting eleven here although it’s possible that Betis will be unchanged.
Real Valladolid have more selection concerns with keeper Jordi Masip out following a positive COVID test meaning Roberto will start in goal. Defender Javi Sanchez is also a doubt while new signing Shon Weissman may make his first start in attack.
