Espanyol vs Mallorca Preview
In the second round of fixtures we have a mouth-watering clash between Espanyol and Mallorca. It will see Vicente Moreno, who left Son Moix to take the hot seat at Espanyol last month, immediately face up against his former side. Both teams are looking to bounce straight back to the Primera División.
Espanyol are coming into this match on the back of an impressive opening day victory. They beat Albacete 3-0 last weekend at the RCDE Stadium and it really could have been six or seven. They dominated the ball with 72% possession and created a lot of chances.
Vicente Moreno will be looking to build on that and the early signs are that leaving Mallorca after three great years to join the Barcelona club was the right move, at least from a career perspective. Picking up three points here will send a message to the other clubs that they really mean business this year.
Looking to put a stop to Espanyol’s charge will be Luis Garcia who had a bit of a setback in the opening match of the season as Mallorca lost 1-0 at home to a tough Rayo Vallecano side. Garcia will be hoping his men will create more in this match to make a statement by outwitting his predecessor. However this is an uncertain period for the club from the Balearic Islands with the future of star striker Ante Budimir, who was left on the bench last weekend, still uncertain.

Espanyol vs Mallorca Predictions
Score Prediction: 2-1 Espanyol
Espanyol have such great strength in depth and this is one of the many reasons they will be hard to beat. With so many options going forward, they pose a huge goal threat. They were relentless against Albacete and didn’t give them a minute to settle throughout the game. Moreno will want to carry this on into the Mallorca game and make a statement against his former employers. Mallorca will create chances but if they are to have any hope of winning they need to take them.
