If Valencia’s opening game this season is anything to go by, this could be a very watchable clash between two flawed teams with a sprinkling of genuine quality in the final third. Celta Vigo are desperate to improve on back-to-back 17th place finishes and will be keen to make a winning start at Balaidos.

The Galicians drew 0-0 at Eibar in their opening match and there is pressure on coach Oscar Garcia to demonstrate that he has found solutions to the problems that plagued them for most of last term. He opted to leave the likes of Denis Suarez and Santi Mina on the bench last weekend and while there is clearly the potential for this Celta team to create chances and score plenty of goals, things still don’t seem to be fully clicking in the final third, at least not on a consistent basis.

In an attacking sense, Valencia were surprisingly impressive in their derby with Levante last weekend, scoring four goals with Manu Vallejo netting a 2nd Half brace. Defensively though, they were a mess at times with their neighbours slicing them open all too easily at times, only to spurn chances that could easily have seen Levante score at least four themselves.

After everything that has gone on at Mestalla this summer, Javi Gracia would probably have just been happy to leave with three points and he’ll see this as another game that serves up at least an opportunity to record another victory. 17 year old Yunus Musah is likely to start again with Lee Kang-In playing in the number ten role and if nothing else this Valencia crisis has given us the opportunity to get a closer look at some exciting young talents.

As for Celta, we shouldn’t see many changes from last weekend with Emre Mor expected to start again out wide with Iago Aspas leading the line.

Celta Vigo vs Valencia Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-1 Celta Vigo

There were some encouraging signs in the final third for Valencia last weekend but defensively it was a horror-show at times and the likes of Aspas ought to be licking his lips at the prospect of this match. Celta remain a bit of an enigma but they do sometimes turn it on against the bigger clubs and with only 2 defeats at Balaidos in 10 months, they look capable of winning this match.
