Espanyol vs Albacete Preview
Espanyol will be kicking off their new season at the RCDE Stadium against Albacete in the first round of fixtures in the Segunda División on Saturday night. It will be the Catalan club’s first match at this level in 26 years following a disastrous top flight campaign which ended in relegation.
Under the new management of former Mallorca boss Vicente Moreno, they will be aiming to hit the ground running and hope for a great start. With new signings Óscar Gil, Miguelón and Fran Mérida, and with likes of Wu Lei, Diego López and Dídac Vilà signing new contracts, this season does look promising for the Blue and Whites. It will though be without Javi Lopez who has decided to move on after spending the last 13 seasons with the Catalans.
Looking to spoil the party and for their own reasons will be Lucas Alcaraz’s Albacete. They narrowly avoided relegation last term and they are looking forward to the new season ahead, their first full campaign under Alcaraz.
Albacete do love a big game beating the likes of Cadiz and Zaragoza while also drawing with Girona and Huesca last season showing how they can make it a tough match for whoever they play. With a new signing in the shape of Liberto and Alvaro Jimenez returning on a permanent transfer, Albacete are hoping to be more competitive this time around.
