Cadiz are back in LaLiga after 14 long years away. Half of those years were spent in the Segunda B so this day will be a reward for all those who have stuck by the club during those difficult times. The only shame is there will be nobody inside the Ramón de Carranza to see Alvaro Cervera’s side make their top flight bows against an Osasuna outfit that has been rocked by a devastating injury blow this week.

Much of the focus will be on Cadiz though to see how they shape up against better quality opponents than they faced last year. Even in the Segunda Division they weren’t convincing in the second half of the campaign with just one home win out of six following the restart. The absence of fans will make it harder for them to turn the Ramón de Carranza into a difficult place for opposing teams to visit, but on paper this is a decent opening fixture for them.

They are up against an Osasuna side that had an excellent 2019/20 season on their return to the top flight. However they will be without the impressive Pervis Estupiñán this term after the left-back returned to parent club Watford. There was optimism though with Chimy Avila, who shone until tearing his ACL last term, returning to fitness. However sadly this week, the Argentine forward suffered a repeat injury but in the opposite knee, and now looks set to miss the majority of the season.

That leaves Osasuna with a big void to fill in attack, and while they did cope admirably without Avila following the restart, they may need to dip into the transfer market again. Adrian Lopez should partner Enric Gallego in attack for the visitors here while Cadiz are likely to go with marquee summer signing Alvaro Negredo leading the line.

Cadiz vs Osasuna Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-1 Cadiz

Morale in the Osasuna camp would have taken a real knock with arguably their best player suffering such a serious injury on the eve of the campaign. They are still a solid side that was tough to beat on their travels last term but like most newly promoted sides, Cadiz will be very hungry to show they can cut at this level. That extra intensity and desire could just give the Andalusians the edge in this match, although it does look like it’s going to be a long season for them.
