Sevilla vs Inter Milan predictions, H2H and match preview for this Friday’s UEFA Europa League Final in Cologne. Read on for analysis and predicted line-ups as Sevilla aim to get their hands on the trophy for a sixth time.
Sevilla vs Inter Milan Preview
The UEFA Europa League Final takes place on Friday in Cologne. It sees Sevilla hunting a 6th triumph in a competition no other club has won more than 3 times. Their record is all the more remarkable when you consider their maiden UEFA Cup victory was as recently as 2006 but this promises to be one of their toughest Final tests against Antonio Conte’s Inter.
Sevilla’s path to the Final hasn’t exactly been an easy one. Roma, Wolves and Manchester United have all been dispatched in this condensed single-match format in Germany. They did need some excellent goalkeeping from Bono to see off the Red Devils in the last round with Luuk de Jong ghosting through to score the winner in a 2-1 victory in the 78th minute.
Inter meanwhile have had on paper a slightly simpler route to this Final. They hammered Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0 in the Semi-Final having overcome Getafe and Bayer Leverkusen in the previous rounds. This is an Inter side that contains plenty of big names and one that finished 2nd to Juventus in Serie A by just a point with Conte again proving to be a hit in his first campaign at a new club.
All in all, this is set up to be an intriguing European Final and while it will be strange seeing such a showpiece game played behind closed doors, both sides are certainly used to that environment by now. Sevilla are unbeaten in 20 games in all competitions and can only take belief from their outstanding record in the Europa League, although it is worth noting that of the players who featured in their last Final in 2016, only Ever Banega played any part against Manchester United in the last round.
This is an almost entirely new Sevilla, even from last season, and they’ve done brilliantly to reach the brink of creating fresh history in Europe’s second competition. Semi-Final match winner De Jong is pushing for a start but it could be an unchanged team for Sevilla and it may be a similar scenario for Inter with Alexis Sanchez still not considered 100% fit.
Sevilla vs Inter Milan Predictions
Score Prediction: 2-1 Sevilla
Perhaps along with the 2016 clash with Liverpool, this might just be Sevilla’s toughest Europa League Final but they will take so much belief into it having seen off some strong sides in the previous rounds despite giving away early penalties in each of their last two matches.
Unbeaten since early February, Sevilla are capable of making it a sweet sixth UEFA Cup/Europa League triumph but they will need to be at their best defensively against one of the best strike pairings in Europe in the shape of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez.
