Sevilla vs Wolves Preview

Europa League kings Sevilla are just three wins away from once again getting their hands on a trophy that they love so much. However their path to a 6th UEFA Cup/UEL win of the 21st Century is a tough one with Premier League opposition waiting in the last eight in the shape of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Sevilla’s form couldn’t be much better though as they head into the business end of the competition. They go into the match unbeaten in 17 games overall and having impressively seen off Roma 2-0 in Duisburg on Thursday. This game will be played out in the same venue and Julen Lopetegui will be hoping for a similar kind of performance to the one which saw goals from Sergio Reguilon and Youssef En-Nesyri defeat the Italian side.

Wolves meanwhile advanced to the last eight with a 1-0 victory over Olympiacos at Molineux last week. Coached by former Valencia boss Nuno, they have had another strong season in England securing a 7th place finish in the Premier League although that won’t be enough to secure European football again unless they go on and win this competition.

In terms of team selection, there aren’t many issues for either coach to contend with. Spanish full-back Jonny is expected to be the only major absentee for the side from the Black Country and Nuno must decide whether to unleash the electric pace of Adama Traore on this Sevilla back-line or whether to partner top scorer Raul Jimenez with Diogo Jota.

Julen Lopetegui dropped something of a surprise by starting Youssef En-Nesyri and Suso in attack against Roma, having preferred Luuk De Jong and Munir for the majority of the final part of the league season. We may see a repeat again here but Sevilla have a doubt over Nemanja Gudelj in midfield after he tested positive for coronavirus.

Sevilla vs Wolves Predictions

Score Prediction: 1-0 Sevilla

These are two strong sides and it promises to be a really close game but Sevilla’s extra European experience and pedigree could just be the difference. Coming into this game unbeaten since early February can only add to their belief too and the Spaniards may just edge this to advance into the last four of the Europa League once more.
