Eibar vs Real Valladolid Preview

Remarkably this is the only game in LaLiga on Thursday with absolutely nothing riding on it besides finishing positions. All of the other nine matches feature sides either battling to avoid relegation, competing for the title or fighting for Europa League places. Both Eibar and Real Valladolid are now safe though with the pair locked together on 39 points, 7 clear of the relegation zone with only 2 to play.

Eibar secured their safety by winning 2-0 at already relegated Espanyol last time out. A brace from Edu Exposito ensured the Basque minnows will be in LaLiga again next season. The 2020/21 campaign will mark their 7th consecutive in the top flight which is an extraordinary achievement for a club of their size. If they do finish in their current position (15th) though, it would mark their worst season since their very first at this level when they should have been relegated in 2014/15 but earned a reprieve thanks to Elche’s financial woes.

As for Real Valladolid, they have again managed to punch above their theoretical weight by beating the drop despite again having one of the smallest budgets in the league. Next season will be their 3rd at this level since winning promotion in 2018. They’ll be keen to try and improve in the final third next term and the signing of Fabian Orellana, who has excelled for Eibar this season, should help them improve on a tally of just 29 goals in 36 games.

The Chilean remains top of the Eibar charts for both goals and assists this term in LaLiga and he will be sorely missed. Orellana has already departed but won’t be eligible for his new club until next term. Of the players still at the club, only Ivan Ramis should be missing for Eibar here while the visitors have a few more issues with Ruben Alcaraz suspended, Michel injured while key defender Mohammed Salisu is also a doubt and may not be risked.

Eibar vs Real Valladolid Predictions

Score Prediction: 1-0 Eibar

Real Valladolid’s selection problems could just tilt this in Eibar’s favour. Both sides should now be able to play with a bit more freedom but there’s not a great deal of attacking quality in either side to take advantage of that. A tight game looks likely but the hosts may just nick it and inflict a 3rd straight defeat on Sergio’s men who may just be in end of season mode now.
