Celta Vigo vs Levante Preview

For the second season running, Celta Vigo head into the final week with work still to do in order to secure their top flight status. Victory here would guarantee their safety but anything less may leave them with work still to do in their final match with the Galicians currently 4 points clear of Mallorca and Leganes in the final relegation places.

Celta looked to have all but guaranteed their survival when they claimed back-to-back wins over Alaves and Real Sociedad last month. The 6 goals they fired past Alaves in particular showed just how much potential exists in this team. However Celta remain an incredibly frustrating side and one that appears to have slipped back into bad old habits since those wins, with just 3 points collected from their last 5 games.

The good news for Celta is that they are up against a Levante team that really doesn’t have anything to play for. We’ve already seen a bit of a decline from them since they mathematically secured their safety and they head into this game following back-to-back defeats. Paco Lopez’s side have lost 67% of their away league games this term and will already have one eye on next season you’d imagine.

Celta are boosted by the return of Jeison Murillo from suspension here. His presence should sure up the defence but they will again be missing the creative presence of Denis Suarez. Levante have virtually a fully fit squad to choose from and no suspensions but may opt to rotate in several positions following defeat at home to Athletic at the weekend.

Celta Vigo vs Levante Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-1 Celta

For all their problems, Celta have only lost 1 of their last 11 home league games so they have managed to turn Balaidos into a tougher place to come to again. With Levante looking like they may just have taken their eye off the ball a touch with the summer break starting on Monday, Celta should get the win they need to secure safety and while they have few reliable performers, this sort of scenario is made for Iago Aspas, who has made a habit of saving their seasons in the home straight.
