Granada vs Real Madrid Preview

Real Madrid’s title charge heads to Andalusia this Monday as they aim to move within 2 points of the title by seeing off Granada. This is a tougher game than it might have been though with the hosts having got themselves back into the battle for Europa League places thanks to some strong recent displays.

Indeed it’s 7 points from 3 games for Diego Martinez’s side. They won an entertaining game at Anoeta last time out as Domingos Duarte’s late header sealed a 3-2 win over fellow European contenders. While Granada remain down in 9th, they will certainly believe that Europa League qualification is now a real possibility with virtually all the teams just above them struggling for results.

This though is a very tough ask with Real Madrid seemingly relentless in their pursuit of the title. They’ve won 8 out of 8 since the restart to leapfrog Barcelona and put themselves in a position where they only need 5 points from their final 3 games to clinch the title. Their strong away record has been a key factor in their success this term with their average of 2 points per game on the road significantly better than that of Barcelona and Atleti.

Granada may opt to go with five at the back here as they look to frustrate a Real Madrid side that has not been scoring many goals from open play. That should see Jose Antonio Martinez get a start at centre-back. Real Madrid are missing Marcelo to injury but top scorer Karim Benzema is expected to be fit despite a minor hamstring problem.

Granada vs Real Madrid Predictions

Score Prediction: 1-0 Real Madrid

Granada have conceded just 0.82 goals per game at home this season on average which is testament to the struggle Real Madrid may have in trying to break them down here. Zinedine Zidane’s men aren’t scintillating to watch at the moment but they do invariably produce one or two moments of quality each match and that could be the difference between the sides again here.
