Leganes vs Valencia Preview

Valencia head to Butarque this Sunday with Leganes desperately seeking a win to keep their slim survival hopes alive. Javier Aguirre’s team haven’t given up despite all kinds of odds being against them but it is now looking highly likely that they will be playing Segunda Division football next term.

They really needed to win against relegation rivals Eibar in midweek but left Ipurua with a 0-0 draw. With fixtures against Athletic Club and Real Madrid to come, it now looks an almost impossible task for Leganes who are 6 points from safety heading into the weekend action. They’ve won just once since the restart and haven’t won at Butarque since February 2nd when Oscar Rodriguez’s late free-kick defeated Real Sociedad.

Valencia head into this match after an overdue victory against Real Valladolid. Lee Kang-in’s 89th minute goal sealed a 2-1 win for Voro’s side. It was an absolutely vital goal in terms of their European ambitions but they really need to back it up with another victory here with Los Che down in 8th place, and outside of the Europa League positions heading into their final three games.

Even Europa League football would be a bit of a letdown given they had targeted and largely budgeted for Champions League qualification again. In the current climate, any form of extra revenue would be welcome though with an uncertain summer off the pitch in store for Valencia and their supporters who are almost exclusively opposed to their current owners.

We have LaLiga match previews for every game this weekend plus some Segunda Division previews.

Leganes vs Valencia Predictions

Score Prediction: 1-0 Valencia

There have been at least some more encouraging signs for Valencia in their last two games and if there’s one opponent who are seemingly incapable of exploiting their defensive problems, it’s probably Leganes who remain seriously short on viable attacking options. Los Che could claim a narrow win here which would all but extinguish Leganes’ survival hopes and boost their own European prospects.
