Granada vs Valencia Preview

The latest chapter in Valencia’s faltering campaign sees Los Che head to Granada this Saturday with their chances of even qualifying for the Europa League starting to decrease. It’s testament to how well Granada have done that they are actually level on points with a Valencia side that has reached the Champions League in the last two seasons and this is a significant game in the race for that final Europa League position.

Granada just looked to be slipping out of contention but an impressive 2-0 win at Alaves last time out has raised their hopes again. Even if they lose all their remaining matches, Diego Martinez will be delighted with what his team have produced this season, but they have put themselves in a position where they at least have an outside shot of achieving an incredibly rare feat by securing European qualification as a newly promoted team.

Valencia desperately need to salvage at least Europa League qualification with financial worries a concern for all clubs at the moment, not least those that have budgeted with an eye on reaching the Champions League again. They’ve lost their last 3 matches to nil and the sacking of Albert Celades and appointment of caretaker boss Voro didn’t have the desired effect last time out, as they lost 2-0 at home to Athletic Club.

Granada are boosted by the return from suspension of centre-back German Sanchez although they did look pretty solid still in his absence in midweek at Alaves. As for Valencia, it looks like they will be without two key men in the shape of Jose Gaya and Rodrigo Moreno for the remainder of the season. That should give Kevin Gameiro a run of games up top alongside Maxi Gomez while Jaume Costa will see plenty of game-time at left-back.

Granada vs Valencia Predictions

Score Prediction: 1-0 Granada

Valencia have now lost 6 of their last 7 away games in La Liga and they just look like a team that wants this season to end as soon as possible. Granada are still fighting and working hard for their teammates and their coach and with an average of 1.81 points per home game (Valencia average just 0.75 on their travels), they look the more likely victors here.
