Celta Vigo vs Real Betis Preview

Celta Vigo take on Real Betis in the early game on Saturday in LaLiga. Victory for the hosts would move them onto 37 points, the same number Betis currently have and both sides would be looking relatively safe although not mathematically so. Overall both sides have had disappointing seasons with squads that aren’t short on talent failing to deliver on anything like a consistent basis.

There have been improvements in Celta since the restart. Their dominant 6-0 win over Alaves was followed up by a surprise away win at Real Sociedad and a draw against Barcelona. However just when Oscar Garcia must have thought he had finally cracked the code in terms of making this Celta team tick, they went and lost 5-1 at Mallorca, a result which ensures they do still have work to do to secure their survival.

Betis meanwhile have lost 4 of their 6 games since the resumption. Rubi was sacked and while interim boss Alexis Trujillo did guide them to victory over Espanyol, Betis have since lost back-to-back games in which they were very much second best. Nabil Fekir’s 1st Half sending off against Villarreal last time out didn’t help matters but they were already 2-0 down by that point.

Fekir will be suspended here but should be Betis’ only major absentee. Veteran winger Joaquin ought to replace him. Celta have Lucas Olaza available after successful negotiations with Boca Juniors enabled them to extend his loan. They will be without the injured Denis Suarez.

Celta Vigo vs Real Betis Predictions

Score Prediction: 3-1 Celta

Betis really have looked far too easy to break down in their last two matches, conceding 4 at Levante and they could have let in at least that number in midweek had Villarreal been more clinical. Celta Vigo are a side with plenty of talented attacking players capable of taking advantage of that and despite that poor showing in Mallorca, they had actually been much better defensively of late with clean sheets in 5 of their 7 games prior to that. Celta look good for the win here which would take them to the brink of safety.
