There’s another big game in the race for promotion to LaLiga this Friday as high-flying Girona and Zaragoza clash in the Segunda Division. The visitors will go top if they can win this match while Girona now face a major battle just to hang onto a play-off place with a host of teams now within 3 points of them, in the race for the final positions in the end of season showdown.
Girona did at one point look like they could contend for automatic promotion but they’ve not found any form since the restart and have won just 1 of their last 7 league games overall. A 2-0 defeat at Malaga last time out was their latest setback but they did beat Numancia by the same scoreline in their last match at Montilivi.
As for Zaragoza, these must be incredibly tense times for their supporters who have been waiting for seven long years for their club to regain their top flight status. Zaragoza are unquestionably a club that should be at that level but like many before them, they’ve discovered just how tough the Segunda Division can be, not least this season where they are involved in a promotion scrap that nobody seems to want to win.
Zaragoza come into this game after a damaging Aragonese derby defeat to Huesca on Monday night. They’ve actually lost all three home games since the resumption but they have won their two road games. Despite their struggles, they still remain well placed to secure automatic promotion although it is now so tight at the top that it’s almost impossible to pick which teams are going straight up with none of the teams completely convincing.

Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw
Girona boast the second best home record in the league with 11 wins and only 2 defeats at Montilivi this season. While Zaragoza have travelled well, this will be much tougher than their last two away games (against strugglers Extremadura and Lugo) and it’s hard to see them emerging with all three points but a draw looks likely with the Catalans struggling to convert one point into three at the moment.
