Atletico Madrid vs Mallorca Preview
Atletico Madrid host Mallorca in the only game in LaLiga this Friday. A shock win for the visitors would really make things interesting at the bottom with the Balearic Islanders the only side in the current bottom three that still look to have any realistic hope of staying up. It won’t be easy against in-form Atleti though with Diego Simeone’s side now firmly on track for Champions League qualification again.
Anything less would have been a major blow, even in what may be seen as a transitional season. They’ve come back strong after the restart though with 4 wins and 2 draws from their 6 matches so far. They may even have left Camp Nou on Tuesday night sensing an opportunity missed to have finally defeated Barcelona in a league match but overall Diego Simeone would have been happy with his side’s showing again.
Having played pretty well in a lot of games without scoring the goals their play perhaps warranted, Mallorca suddenly found their shooting boots on Tuesday night to fire five goals past relegation rivals Celta Vigo. They still have a lot of work to do with five points separating them from safety and only four games to play after this but there is a glimmer of light for Vicente Moreno’s men now.
They do have three winnable games on paper between now and the end of the campaign. This, in theory, isn’t one of them, but anything is possible in football and with six days before their next fixture, Mallorca can afford to target this game without worrying about recovery times.

Mallorca are capable of making a game of this but they won’t get anywhere the kind of space in the final third that they did against Celta the other night. Atletico still have work to do in order to guarantee a top four finish and they won’t be taking their foot off the gas just yet so this match should still end in a home win.
