Real Betis vs Villarreal Preview

There is another late game in Seville this Thursday in La Liga as Villarreal head to the Benito Villamarin aiming to inflict more misery on Real Betis. Aside from Real Madrid, the Yellow Submarine are the form team in the Spanish top flight since the restart and they will fancy their chances of picking up another victory here.

Betis have won one and lost one since sacking Rubi. Interim boss Alexis Trujillo’s slim chances of getting the job on a permanent basis took a blow at the weekend though as his side fell 4-0 down at Levante before scoring two consolation goals in the 2nd Half. It’s safe to say some serious soul-searching will need to be done in the green and white half of Seville this summer with talk this week that a shock move to reappoint Quique Setien could be on the cards should he leave Barcelona.

As for Villarreal, Javi Calleja, who famously was sacked only to be very swiftly reappointed, now looks very safe in his position. He has done a really good job this season, helped by some strong recruitment, of suring up this side at the back and 4 wins to nil from their 5 games since the restart is clear evidence of that.

We are likely to see some rotation from a Villarreal side that scored two brilliant goals in the victory over Valencia at the weekend. Alberto Moreno is available again following a ban and should return. As for Betis, William Carvalho is suspended but otherwise they should be at full strength although changes are very possible given how they started their last game.

We have LaLiga match previews for every game this week plus predictions for all Segunda Division games.

Real Betis vs Villarreal Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-1 Betis

Betis do still have players of considerable technical quality in their ranks with the likes of Sergio Canales and Nabil Fekir more than capable of producing a moment of magic to score a goal. Overall though Villarreal are playing much the better football right now and they look capable of maintaining their strong push for European qualification by defeating a Betis side that doesn’t have much to play for.
