Eibar vs Osasuna Preview
There’s a derby clash at Ipurua this Thursday as Eibar aim to take another step towards safety by defeating Osasuna. Both teams come into this match following back-to-back wins which have seriously eased their relegation worries but Mallorca’s big win earlier in the week does suggest Eibar at least still have a bit of work to do.
Since losing away to Real Madrid in their first game following the restart, Eibar have played as well as they have all season, taking 8 points from 4 games including those two crucial victories over Valencia and away to Granada last time out. They can’t fully start looking forward to next season, which will present its own challenges, yet victory here would see them onto 38 points which in all likelihood should be enough to secure another season in the top flight.
Osasuna have 41 points to their name and in truth can already afford to start looking towards next term. Victories over Alaves and Leganes in their last two games have sealed that and Jagoba Arrasate will be delighted with a return of 7 points from 5 matches since the restart, given many had tipped his injury-ravaged side to fall into the thick of the relegation scrap during this final part of the season.
We are now of course in July and that’s significant particularly for Eibar as Fabian Orellana and Gonzalo Escalante are now out of contract and will not be eligible to play. Both have been important players for the Basque minnows with Escalante a mainstay throughout their time in the top flight while Orellana has chipped in with more goals and more assists than any other Eibar player this term.

Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw
Those two departures will hit Eibar hard and it essentially robs them of half of the midfield that impressed against Valencia in their last home game. With Osasuna doing just enough to get results and Enric Gallego starting to chip in with a few goals, the visitors look capable of getting a result here which will leave Eibar with possibly a bit more work to do to secure another top flight campaign, although much will depend on Mallorca’s results.
