Alaves vs Granada Preview
The Wednesday night action in LaLiga sees an Alaves side, that could do with one more victory to just ease any lingering relegation worries, take on mid-table Granada. The visitors haven’t given up on Europa League qualification but it looks a big ask for Diego Martinez’s side now.
Alaves have struggled since the resumption to the season. They were truly awful in a 6-0 defeat in Vigo and head into this game following three straight defeats. Defensively they have been a bit ‘hit and miss’ all season, admittedly more so on the road than at home. However what is a slight concern is that you have to go back to February for the last time either Joselu or Lucas Perez scored in open play. The duo had formed a prolific pairing prior to that, scoring the vast majority of their team’s goals.
Granada meanwhile have found a few goals through the talents of Carlos Fernandez since the resumption but they don’t really have the feel of a side that is going to make a strong European challenge over the remaining 6 games. That of course was never a serious goal this season but Martinez will be keen to ensure that his side’s season doesn’t just peter out with only 2 points from their last 4 games.
In fairness to Granada, mounting injury problems are beginning to really take their toll and are making it tough for their boss to give any of his fit players a rest. They may be without as many as 7 players through injury here and to top it off, key centre-back Germán Sánchez is suspended.

Score Prediction: 2-0 Alaves
Granada’s selection issues leave them really short on numbers for this game and Germán Sánchez is a really big miss as he has been the real leader for their defence this season. Alaves rested a lot of players in Madrid at the weekend so should be fresh. They have the greater urgency and with what looks like a fully fit squad to choose from, they could put their recent woes behind them with a much needed win.
