It’s not just the top flight that has a key top of the table clash on Tuesday night with a very significant game taking place at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero. Play-off hopefuls Elche host a Cadiz side that has topped the table for virtually the entire season but still has work to do to finish the job and secure automatic promotion.
They’ve not been convincing since the restart but with the other teams at the top also struggling for wins, they haven’t really been made to pay for their poor form. It’s just 1 win in 6 games overall for Cadiz heading into this with a 2-0 home defeat against Tenerife, their latest setback at the weekend. They can at least take confidence from the fact that their best two performances since the restart have both come away – a win against Numancia and a draw at Huesca.
Elche’s promotion hopes have also been wobbling a touch. They’ve only won one of their five games since returning to action, although that did come in a key clash with fellow play-off hopefuls Girona. They’ve since been beaten at home by struggling Depor though before picking up a decent point away to Las Palmas at the weekend to just keep them in the top six.
This is starting to feel like a league that no team wants to climb out of with just about every team at the top end, struggling for any sort of consistency and both Elche and Cadiz certainly fall into that category.

It’s hard to fancy either side here with neither really showing the conviction of a team that truly believes it is going to go on and secure promotion. A draw looks the most likely outcome and it wouldn’t be a disastrous result for either in the circumstances.
