Celta Vigo vs Barcelona Preview

It’s crunch-time for Barcelona with this the first match in a difficult nine day period which also sees them host Atletico Madrid and travel to Villarreal. With Celta having finally found some form, this suddenly feels like a much tougher fixture for the Catalans as they bid to keep pace with Real Madrid in the title race.

Heading into last weekend, Celta Vigo looked like a side that was on a slippery slope towards relegation. However a week is a long time in football, particularly with the games coming as quickly as they are now. A dominant 6-0 win over Alaves, backed up by a surprise success at Anoeta, has suddenly given Celta a 7 point advantage on the relegation zone and left them most likely wondering how they ever even got themselves into a relegation scrap in the first place with the talent they have in their squad.

Barcelona meanwhile head into this game on the back of five straight clean sheets in LaLiga, having not conceded since the Clasico defeat at the Bernabeu on March 1st. However despite that this doesn’t feel like a happy camp. They’ve only scored once in their last two games with Ivan Rakitic’s 2nd Half goal sparing their blushes against an organised Athletic Club side in midweek. Reports of Arthur’s imminent sale to Juventus has also reportedly not gone down well in the Camp Nou dressing room and the momentum is certainly with Real Madrid in this title race.

The Catalans do have what may be the advantage of playing first again and victory here would be a big lift given Balaidos is a ground where they do usually struggle, having failed to win on any of their last five trips to Vigo. Their chances here are hampered by not only the injury to Frenkie de Jong but the suspension of Sergio Busquets which could seriously upset the balance of their midfield.

Celta meanwhile have Okay Yokuslu back from suspension and could line up with two former Barca midfielders in their eleven in the shape of Denis Suarez and Rafinha.

Celta Vigo vs Barcelona Predictions

Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw

This feels like a pivotal game in the title race and with Celta suddenly starting to deliver on their potential, they look well capable of getting a result against an unconvincing Barcelona side that has selection problems in midfield while doubts continue over the form of Antoine Griezmann and fitness of Luis Suarez in attack. With a big crowd behind them, Celta might even have fancied their chances of winning this match but behind closed doors and given their league position, Oscar Garcia will be more than happy to walk away with a draw that would severely damage Barca’s title hopes.
