Atletico Madrid vs Alaves Preview

Atletico Madrid are bidding to keep up their strong form since the resumption to the season when they host Alaves at the Wanda Metropolitano this Saturday. They now look very much on course for Champions League qualification but will want to avoid any slip-up here with a tough game at Camp Nou to come in the week.

Diego Simeone’s side have taken advantage of a decent run of fixtures and head into this game following three straight wins. With Getafe and Real Sociedad still winless since the resumption, what looked like it would be a real fight for Champions League qualification, now looks like it should be something of a stroll for Los Rojiblancos who also of course have the latter stages of this season’s competition to look forward to.

As for Alaves, they’ve had 3 really poor showings and results since the restart but crucially that one key win over Real Sociedad which pushed them onto 35 points, a figure which may be enough to keep them in LaLiga although they will want to add a few more to make sure. They were hammered 6-0 in an abject showing at Celta Vigo last weekend and weren’t much better as they lost their home derby against Osasuna in midweek.

Asier Garitano will want to see a much improved defensive showing from his side here and he should have close to a full strength squad to choose from with Aleix Vidal his only injury worry. Atleti are also dealing with few injuries right now with Felipe available again although Diego Simeone will most likely look to manage his players’ workload with that big game at Camp Nou coming up.

Atletico Madrid vs Alaves Predictions

Score Prediction: 3-0 Atleti

Asier Garitano sides are associated with being solid defensively, but that really hasn’t been the case for Alaves this season, at least not on their travels. They’ve conceded 2.27 goals per game away from home in LaLiga on average, losing 67% of their road games and with Atleti showing more attacking quality now and Marcos Llorente a revelation in an attacking midfield role, the Basques could have another long evening here in the capital.
