Real Valladolid vs Getafe Preview

Getafe’s Champions League dream is looking considerably more distant now than it did when football resumed the week before last. Despite a relatively kind set of fixtures, they are still waiting for their first win since the resumption and now have serious ground to make up on the top four as they head to the Jose Zorrilla to take on Real Valladolid.

The hosts are edging towards safety but they still have work to do. It’s 4 points from 3 games since the resumption for them with that key victory at Leganes coming in their first game back. They have a 7 point advantage on the drop-zone and will probably be content enough to grind out a draw in this game to inch further towards safety and a third straight season at this level.

To put Getafe’s current struggles in some perspective, it is worth a reminder that they are currently only in their third season back in LaLiga and the fact they are even in contention for Champions League qualification is pretty remarkable for a club of their size and stature. Jose Bordalas will though be frustrated by his side’s failure to hit the ground running with home draws against Espanyol and Eibar not what he was looking for from the past week.

In terms of team news, the hosts are weakened by suspensions for Michel and Waldo Rubio and an injury to Pedro Porro, although only the former is really a regular starter. Getafe, who do have quite an old squad in some areas of the pitch, are likely to continue with their rotation policy with Jason and Allan Nyom likely to come into the side in the wide areas while Jorge Molina should return up top.

Real Valladolid vs Getafe Predictions

Score Prediction: 0-0 Draw

We’re certainly not expecting a classic here. Both sides have had success by primarily being solid at the back and setting out with two solid lines of four. The onus will be on Getafe to chase the game but they’ve not convinced at all since the resumption and a 0-0 bore draw looks a likely outcome.
