Leganes vs Granada Preview

Leganes are now starting to run out of games as they bid to pull off an unlikely escape act. While Granada are having a fantastic campaign, Lega will still see this as one of the few games they have a real chance of picking up a victory in and it’s pivotal for the South Madrid side’s survival hopes that they do manage to pick up all three points.

They managed to salvage something from their relegation six-pointer at Mallorca last time out with Oscar Rodriguez scoring an absolutely stunning free-kick with just minutes remaining. A 1-1 draw was still not really the result either side was after and Lega are five points shy of safety heading into this match with their draw at Son Moix, the only point they’ve collected since the resumption.

On the surface, Granada are one of the few teams in LaLiga that doesn’t have an awful amount left to play for. They sit in 10th place, and while they are only 5 points off the Europa League places, it’s going to be a big ask for them to overhaul one of the teams above them that on paper have much stronger and deeper squads. The Andalusians have won one, drew one and lost once since the resumption, with a 1-0 home defeat to Villarreal last time out, their first loss in 7 league games.

Granada have been less convincing on their travels this season, losing over half of their road games in LaLiga but they did play pretty well at the Benito Villamarin last week. Leganes meanwhile have lost over half of their home games and with Sevilla, Valencia and Real Madrid their final three visitors to Butarque, they’ll know that this game is essentially ‘must win’.

We have match previews for every game in La Liga between now and the end of this season.

Leganes vs Granada Predictions

Score Prediction: 1-0 Leganes

For all their limitations, and the lack of goal threat that was in part enforced on them by LaLiga’s controversial decision to allow Barcelona to sign Martin Braithwaite in February, Leganes do not look like a side that will go down without a fight. They were unfortunate to lose their opening home game against Real Valladolid and with Oscar Rodriguez providing some much needed spark in the final third, they may just have enough to claim a desperately needed win here against a Granada side that has little to play for.
