Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid Preview

The late game in LaLiga on Sunday could be a cracker as Real Madrid travel to Anoeta to take on Real Sociedad. These sides played out a 7 goal thriller in the Copa del Rey at the Bernabeu only a few months back with Real Sociedad winning 4-3 but Los Blancos will be gunning for revenge here.

Zinedine Zidane will have eyes on the main prize of the league title and Real Madrid’s performance in the 2nd Half against Valencia in midweek had a champions feel to it. With Eden Hazard lively alongside Karim Benzema in attack, they brushed Los Che aside with 3 goals, including one for Marco Asensio with his very first kick of the season following an extensive injury lay-off. It was a dream return for the Spaniard who also set up Benzema for one of the goals of the season so far.

Real Sociedad meanwhile have been pretty lacklustre in their two games so far. That was particularly the case as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat in a Basque derby at Alaves. Imanol made a quadruple substitution at one point in an attempt to spark some life into his team but it was to no avail and La Real’s Champions League hopes are now looking considerably slimmer than they did before the restart.

Inevitably much of the focus here will again be on Martin Odegaard, although a minor knock means it is uncertain as to whether he will take on his parent club with a decision over his future for next season still to be made. If Real Sociedad fail to qualify for the Champions League, it’s more likely that the Norwegian will return to the Bernabeu and play for Los Blancos next season.

Real Madrid may recall Marcelo to the starting eleven but few other changes are expected with Luka Modric expected to play in behind Karim Benzema and Eden Hazard again.

Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid Predictions

Score Prediction: 3-1 Real Madrid

With Real Sociedad a bit out of sorts, no crowd at Anoeta and Real Madrid imperious for the latter part of their midweek game, this suddenly doesn’t seem like such a difficult game for Los Blancos. Since the resumption they’ve produced two very good halves of football and two ordinary ones. If they can find another strong 45 minutes here, that might be enough to see off this Real Sociedad side which never fully convinces defensively and are yet to rediscover their attacking groove.
