The late game in LaLiga comes from the Wanda Metropolitano, the only venue which has yet to host a match since the unexpected interruption to the season. Atletico Madrid will head into this game full of confidence after their biggest win of the season in midweek but it’s never easy against an organised Real Valladolid side.
Atleti hit five at Osasuna with Joao Felix grabbing two goals – a much needed confidence boost for the young Portuguese forward. The other standout performer was Marcos Llorente, who was operating in a more advanced midfield position and grabbed a goal and two assists following his 2nd Half introduction. It was a ruthless display from Atleti and their biggest league win since 2017.
It’s highly unlikely that they will be able to score five against this opposition. Real Valladolid are a very solid outfit and only six teams have better defensive records in La Liga this term than them. They’ve taken 4 points from their 2 games since the restart too to edge themselves firmly in the direction of safety.
In truth, Sergio may be highly tempted to rotate his team here and just rest a few players for Tuesday night when they host Getafe and will fancy their chances more of getting a result. Diego Simeone meanwhile suddenly has a wealth of options available to him with substitutes impressing in midweek and it’ll be interesting to see which players he places his faith in here.

After two games against relegation rivals in a short space of time, Real Valladolid could rest one or two of their better players here and that may just make Atleti’s job considerably easier than it would have been. Atleti were ruthless in midweek, a characteristic that has been lacking for much of the season, and if they can get close to that level of finishing again, they ought to see off Real Valladolid in this match.
