Mallorca vs Leganes Preview

There’s a massive relegation six-pointer at Son Moix this Friday as Mallorca play host to Leganes. Both sides are in the thick of the relegation scrap and it seems highly probable that at least one of these clubs will be playing Segunda Division football next term if not both. This is probably the biggest game of the season so far for both coaches and victory would be an enormous boost for either.

Neither exactly take any real momentum into this game. Mallorca have lost their two games since the restart, although they have had tough fixtures. There were some positives to take even in 4-0 defeat at home to Barcelona and then in a 1-0 loss at Villarreal. However at this stage in the season, it’s only really results that matter and Vicente Moreno will know that his team will be running out of chances to save themselves if they fail to win this match.

Exactly the same applies for Javier Aguirre and Leganes. They’ve also lost both games since the resumption with their 2-1 home loss against Real Valladolid particularly damaging. Despite naming an XI with a grand total of one league goal this season, they were competitive at Camp Nou in midweek but ultimately succumbed to a 2-0 defeat.

Aguirre certainly had one eye on this game when he named his team for that match and we should see the likes of Guide Carrillo, Oscar Rodriguez and Kevin Rodrigues return to the starting eleven here. Mallorca meanwhile should recall top scorer Ante Budimir and veteran midfielder Salva Sevilla after both men only featured from the bench against Villarreal.

Mallorca vs Leganes  Predictions

Score Prediction: 1-0 Mallorca

This is a classic relegation six pointer in many respects and it could come down to who handles the pressure the best. Mallorca will stick to their usual footballing ways while Leganes will inevitably adopt a more physical approach but overall the hosts have a bit more creativity in their ranks and marginally more obvious goal threats which could help them seal a vital win.
