Real Sociedad vs Osasuna Preview

The final game of matchday 28, or what will feel more like matchday 1 of the second part of the 2019/20 season, sees Real Sociedad play host to Osasuna. The two teams will at least have been able to sit back and watch what happens in the other games and maybe pick up a few ideas for how to manage this unique situation.

Ordinarily this would have felt like a home banker. Real Sociedad are enjoying a terrific season and are in strong contention to qualify for the Champions League. They were in fine form before the break winning 7 out of 8 in all competitions, a sequence which included their run to the Copa del Rey Final. They’ve also reeled off 7 straight home wins, including a 3-1 victory over Osasuna in that cup run.

Osasuna will at least fancy this a bit more with no fans in the stadium but it’s going to be tough for them. While most teams have managed to get players back to fitness during this break, Osasuna have the longest injury list of any team in La Liga and that’s a real concern with games coming thick and fast.

Top scorer Chimy Avila has done some work on the training ground but is still not fit to return after a serious knee injury in January. Ruben Garcia is suspended while Fran Merida, Facundo Roncaglia, Robert Ibanez and Kike Barja are also carrying knocks meaning they will be someway short of their strongest XI here.

Ominously for Osasuna, La Real should be at full strength with the biggest decision for Imanol being whether to start with Willian Jose or Alexander Isak up top.

Real Sociedad vs Osasuna Predictions

Score Prediction: 3-1 Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad have been arguably the best team to watch in all of La Liga this season and they’ve been scoring for fun at times. With Martin Odegaard pulling the strings in midfield, they should have too much class for an under-strength Osasuna side and the hosts ought to collect maximum points here.
