Racing Santander vs Lugo Preview
Two sides from northern Spain clash on Saturday in the Segunda Division. It’s a really big game for both Racing and Lugo with the pair in serious danger of dropping down into the Segunda B and victory for either would provide a much needed platform from which to build.
Racing Santander simply have to win this match you feel if they are going to have any realistic chance of beating the drop. They are propping up the table with just 28 points, 7 fewer than Albacete who sit immediately above the relegation zone. Lugo are also in the bottom four but with 34 points to their name, there are a whole host of teams that they will believe they can still catch and survival looks a more realistic dream for the Galician club.
With just 4 wins all season, it has been a very difficult campaign for Racing who are battling against an immediate return to the Segunda B, which they finally got out of last season after four years in the third tier. Things did though pick up slightly following the appointment of José Luis Oltra as their new boss in February. They’ve taken 7 points from 5 games under him including a shock win at promotion chasing Almeria and a win at Numancia last time out.
Lugo meanwhile made a managerial switch around the turn of the year with Curro Torres stepping in to replace Eloy Jimenez. They struggled initially following the change but had just started to find some better form too at the time season was halted. Lugo are unbeaten in five games as a result heading into this with just one goal conceded across their last four league outings.

Score Prediction: 0-0 Draw
This match features two sides who probably wouldn’t have wanted the halt to the season given their form was on the up and it’s tough to know who will settle more quickly here. Racing have the worst home record in the division but their recent improvements suggests they may come away from the game with a draw against a Lugo side that has been involved in some very low-scoring games of late. In truth, it’s a result which would not do a great deal for either team.
